Yamaha Racing’s Mascardo bags two titles in Eneos RUGP 1st leg
Davao City – Yamaha Racing’s April King Mascardo made his presence felt for his home town crowd by bagging two titles to start his campaign in the 2025 Eneos Motor Oil Regional Underbone Grand Prix (RUGP) Leg One held Sunday, 6 April at the NCCC Victoria Plaza grounds.
Mascardo which started his racing career way back since the organizing The Racing Line reeled off local races some 20 years ago, erupted his home town crowd with his signature two-wheel riding skills to claim the Underbone Open GP and the Diablo Cup Underbone 155 LDT GP to stand tall at the winner’s podium awarded by Eneos Philippines General Deputy General Manager Dayton Llamas, Eneos Philippines General Manager for Marketing and Planning Jay Sanchez and The Racing Line TV Proprietor and RUGP Chairman Jonathan Uy.
It was a double-whammy victory for Mascardo who edged Bukidnon’s Ephraim Onahon of team Honda Project M and pre-race local bet Bornok Mangosong of Yamaha BM111 Racing on both race categories.
Onahon and Mangosong both settled second and third places on both Underbone Open GP and Diablo Cup Underbone 155 LDT GP behind Mascardo, respectively.
Mangosong, noted as the country’s number one motocross rider and an Eneos Motor Oil endorser was back on the street-designed track rode with his 12 year-old son Kyro who was in to his first race.
On the other hand, Jaypee Obedencio of Honda Project M Bukidnon took the Honda Winner X title leaving past Cebu City’s Sylvester Ramirez of SR Moto Garaje and Gian Carlo Comendador of NCX Racing Cebu at second and third places, in that order.
Other winners saw – Scooter 160 Open: Jean Michael Borilla (1st), Arthel Dingding (2nd), Kakay dela Peidra (3rd); Underbone 155 LDT Intermediate: Deo Pondoc (BM111 Racing) – 1st, Nikko Nambatac (FI Tech) -2nd, Rafael Davis (SR Moto Garaje Cebu)- 3rd; Underbone 155 LDT SP: Mark Leorna (Team Neutral Davao) -1st, Xhan dela Cruz – 2nd, Chupi Manghano- 3rd; Diablo Scooter 125 LDT GP: Epharim Onahon – 1st, Gian Carlo Comendador (NCX Racing Cebu) – 2nd, Nikko Nambatac (FI Tech Davao) – 3rd; Diablo Scooter 125 LDT SP: Chupi Manghano – 1st, John Sanoria – 2nd, Kent Basalo – 3rd; LYR Moto-VMan Underbone 155 LDT Beginners: Kim Jay Leorna – 1st, Jr Oguimas – 2nd, John Torido – 3rd; LYR Moto VMan Scooter 125 LDT Beginners: Jones Collados – 1st, Keneth Aguelo – 2nd, Kent Basalo – 3rd.
Some 60 riders from the Visayas and Mindanao areas took part in the RUGP’s first leg. The second leg is set on June 15 in Tagum City to be followed by the Visayas legs which will be on September 14 at Panglao, Bohol then the last leg in Cebu City on October 15. (Jon Develos)
