Top Racers of Manila, Cebu & Davao squares off in RUGP Race in Cagayan de Oro

The 2010 Regional Underbone Grand Prix (RUGP) in Cagayan de Oro was a blast, Manila, Cebu and Davao City race teams joined the exhilarating race. Manila race teams who joined round-2 of the RUGP Visayas – Mindanao are Suzuki Philippines Race Team headed by Mel Aquino with their top riders Johnlery Enriquez and Ivan Santiago, MTRT headed by Henson Hu with top riders Paul Pangilinan and Cassey Ng, Honda Motorworld Race Team of Cebu headed by Jhonel Borromeo & Juno Villena with their top riders, Lyndon Requilme, Mark Capoy, Peter Gjengaar, Erik Gjengaar & Gilbert Miro and four top Davao race teams, Daguio Racing Team, defending Champion 2009 RUGP Rider of the year Ernie Daguio Jr., Suzuki-VMAN-Phoneix-Spyder Race team headed by Manuel Chien with their top riders, Nino Cabatingan, Romeo Osigan Jr., April King Mascardo, Gerald Quiao & King Ganotise. CAP – Speedometrix with Mark Booc and Nelson Taculoy and The Davao Scooter Club headed by Delfin Cabatingan and Colin Aseoche with riders Raphel Dayao, Geno Malasa & Riekki Cabaluna. And ofcourse several Cagayan de oro race teams also participated the All Star race line such as Motor Mate, Moto Options and Full Throttle. Thousands of spectators watched in the sideline as the battle on the circuit unfolds on this very hot Sunday afternoon.

“The Race seems like a National Race because of all the participants coming from all directions” said Jong Uy RUGP Race Chairman and founder, “we are very happy that we were able to pull it all together, we would like to thank all the race teams who went all the way from their respective hometowns for this race” he added.

In the 4-AT Novice Open, where the biggest number of participants at 38 riders, Ernie Daguio Jr. of DRT Race Team – Davao let his presence felt using his Yamaha Mio, as he battled head to head with Rap Rap Dayao also using a Yamaha Mio in the closing stages of the heat-2. It was not an easy task coming into the race, Cassey Ng of MTRT could have made it during the first heat of the race, but he wasn’t able to finish the race due some problems of the bike and eventually got eliminated. It was a grueling battle between Davao Scooter Club Rap Rap Dayao, Suzuki’s Ivan Santiago and Honda Motorworld’s Garry Caneda in the opening stages of heat-2 as Ernie Daguio Jr., eventually breaks away from the group winning the 4AT Novice Open.

In the 4-AT beginners open, Cebu Honda Motorworld dominated this class, getting a 1,2,3 finish using their Honda Beat Scooters headed by Mark Capoy, Peter GJengaar and Lyndon Requilme. In the 115 Novice Open, Suzuki-VMAN-Phoenix-Spyder Racers quickly set out the mark as they dominated this class, taking a 1,2,3 headed Nino Cabatringan, Romeo Osigan Jr and Gerald Quiao respectively. In the 125 Novice Open, Suzuki’s Johnlery Enriquez squares off with Ernie Daguio Jr. of DRT Race team, Enriquez dominated the race as he almost overlapped all the riders on the grid with his fast pace superb riding style. A special class was formed during this race, a showdown of underbone and scooters, the MTRT Invitational Open class participated by 12 Top Riders on the grid, each team fielded two of their top riders in this class using their top motorcycles. Ernie Daguio Jr. of DRT Race team used his Yamaha Mio in this race while Suzuki’s top tandem used their respective bikes, Smash and Skydrive. Cebu Honda Motorworld used their Honda Beat Scooters and the MTRT duo Cassey Ng and Paul Pangilinan used their powerful Yamaha Mio. In this race, it was a battle between Johnlery Enriquez, Ivan Santiago of Suzuki and Ernie Daguio Jr. of DRT Race team Davao, no one is giving up on the lead for 10 straight laps, the sight of wheel race between these three riders wowed the audience. Johnlery Enriquez got the top award while Ivan Santiago and Ernie Daguio Jr. settled for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
